How An Inspiring Quote Can Save You From Burnout

Have you ever tried to capture lightning in a bottle? Ok, that may be a tall order. How about bottling up a little dose of inspiration you can turn to every now and then? It can come in the form of a quote that left an indelible mark during your college days or a sparkling insight a speaker shared during a career orientation. Wouldn’t it be great to have cherished words you can turn to when your inspiration-o-meter is running low or when getting the feeling work has taken over your life?Here’s an idea by Aja Frost, a student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and writer whose work has been featured in various publications, that may help keep you going through any hell or high water:

I’d pick one inspirational quote and live by that quote—for one week. After the seven days was up, I’d choose a new quote. Focusing on one mantra at a time would give me focus, and I’d switch often enough that they’d maintain their impact.

As if the universe was speaking to her, each quote seemed timely and apt for the phase she was going through, giving her the extra boost to square up for the challenge or opportunity ahead. Try executing these Frost-recommended strategies:

​1. Jot down the quote on your weekly planner. This would serve as a reminder of the quote when you write something down or take a peek at your next task.

​2. Write your quote of the week on a Post-it note that can be placed on your desk or mirror.

​3. Devote ample time in choosing quotes that speak to you and apply to a wide range of situations.

If you’re a huge fan of quotes, this strategy is for you, especially if you’re the type who sees them as sources for inspiration, motivation, and reflection. Quote away.
